When someone asks if you are grounding yourself, they are asking:
- How are you getting out of your head?
- How are you managing anxious feelings?
Many individuals, myself included, experience looping thoughts filled with worries and new sources of anxiety. This cycle can leave you feeling unsafe, restless, and disconnected from the present moment.
Breaking the Cycle
The key is to catch yourself in the act and shift your focus to something more constructive. That’s where grounding comes in! Grounding is a simple technique. Just close your eyes, take deep breaths, and imagine this connection:
Close your eyes, inhale deeply, and visualize white light entering through the top of your head. Picture the light traveling down through your chakras — from the crown, third eye, throat, heart, solar plexus, sacral, to the root chakra at the base of your spine. From there, envision the light descending down your legs to your feet, then streaming out from your feet into the ground like tree roots. These roots extend down to the core of the earth, forming a connection. Visualize the earth’s energy rising through the roots, reaching your body, and meeting the white light from above. You are now connected.
Take a moment to appreciate this grounding connection with the earth and the Universe. When you’re ready, express gratitude to both, and slowly return to the present by wiggling your fingers and toes. Open your eyes.

Remember, reiki can aid in managing anxiety. Here’s a testimonial from a client who received reiki for anxiety:
“Initially skeptical about Reiki due to my lack of knowledge, continuous sessions with Brooke have significantly eased my severe anxiety. After a Reiki session, I feel calm and rejuvenated. Looking forward to the next one.”
