Walt’s Story
I began practicing reiki for animals with our dog Walt. He responded remarkably well. During the reiki sessions, he would relax and fall asleep, waking up later from his “reiki nap.”
In 2022, Walt was diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy, a condition affecting his spinal cord. This condition caused progressive muscle weakness and coordination loss. Walt was walking on his back legs’ knuckles. The disease can cause mobility issues, difficulty with eating and drinking, and incontinence in dogs. The prognosis was that he had 3-6 months left, but definitely less than a year.
To prevent muscle atrophy in Walt’s back legs, we engaged in daily exercises and walks. Additionally, he received acupuncture, which he enjoyed for the attention and treats.
I regularly provided reiki to Walt, which he adored! Once he felt the energy, he’d settle in for a nap, waking up on his own later.
As time passed, Walt’s walks became shorter and shorter. He struggled with stairs and hardwood floors. We placed rugs and yoga mat pieces strategically to aid his footing. Throughout it all, he maintained his goofy smile and personality.
After 8 months of battling his illness, we had to say goodbye our dear boy.
In his final days, my reiki sessions involved comforting conversations. I explained the upcoming events and assured him we would visit the vet, a woman he trusted and loved to see. I told him he would fall asleep and awaken in a new place. I assured him he could visit us anytime and that my stepmother Dana, along with our departed cats Cuddles and Brook Nermal would be there to greet him.
His passing was peaceful. I hope this was because of all the preparation and the love we share that eased his transition. Walt knew it was ok to go, and that he should visit us often. And he does. 🐕🦺

How does it work?
I introduce myself to your pet. I tell them who I am and why I am there. I invite them to meditate with me and explain that they have a choice whether or not they want to join. I then sit or stand near them in a relaxed position and begin the reiki treatment.
Each animal reacts differently. Some may be curious and sniff my hands. Others may seem uninterested and go about what they were previously doing. Some fall into a deep sleep or “reiki nap.” A reiki treatment can take up to one hour or when the animal decides they are done.
If an animal is unaccepting of reiki, the treatment ends at that point. Another way would be to do the treatment at a distance. How far? I do the treatment from my home and direct it to your beloved pet. If this is an option, we will plan it for a time that there’s nothing going on, like after they’ve had their walk, a meal, or when the family is settled in for the evening.
Where do you do it?
Ideally, reiki should be done at home in a quiet setting where they are most comfortable. If you have a busy home with lots of activity, it’s best to position your pet in a room away from any noise where they can relax and still have free range of the room. Reiki is always voluntary, your pet always has a choice whether or not they want to receive the healing energy of reiki.
Distance reiki is another option if in-home reiki is not ideal for your pet. There can be various reasons for this. Distance reiki is $60.
Does reiki replace veterinary care?
No, your pet should still be under the care of a veterinarian. Reiki complements veterinary care, enhancing healing, pain relief and promoting a sense of relaxation for your pet.
My pet is nervous. Do you have to touch them?
No, reiki does not require direct physical contact to be effective. It can be given from across the room or off-site and still be beneficial for your pet.
How much does it cost?
Pet reiki costs $73-95 (cash discount available) and covers travel within the service area map. (See below.) There are three service area rings that increase in cost the farther out you live. Please ask if you are unsure which service area ring you are in during the pet reiki discovery call.
Does it work?
It’s important to understand that it may take more than one reiki treatment to see any changes in your pet. Your pet decides if they want to accept reiki and how much. No human can decide that for them.
